Sukuki Loom Works began in the first decade of the century, in 1909, founded by Michio Suzuki in Hamamatsu, for the production of textile machinery. And it’s in 1952 when Suzuki produced its first vehicle, with a small motorcycle engine, the Power Free. And it was the first of a series that was going to meet a considerable success, both commercial and sports around the world. In 1954, the company changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co. In October 1955, showed its first four-wheeled vehicle, a car with two-stroke engine, two cylinders and 360 cc, called Suzulight were produced and only 43.
The automobile manufacturing in quantities began in 1962, which had a speed of 85 km / h. In 1964 appeared the Borders. The company’s activities were not confined to cars, but also to outboard motors and prefabricated house.
The export was modest, in a roughly 5.5% of a total of more than 65 thousand vehicles built in 1979. In August 1981, Suzuli signed a major agreement with General Motors to sell cars in U.S. economic. Both companies produced a new 1,000-cc car sold in Japan as Suzuki Cultus and in the United States as Chevrolet Sprint.
